哪些英文词典词汇最多？
我在弄一个《英文词典词头索引》的mdx，把坛里的纯英文词典的词头抽出来做mdx，用来校对英汉词典。
弄了一个实验版，收了大约65万个词头。
为了改进，决定做一点正式的研究。
啊，不调查就没有发言权。一做研究，感到有点意外。
Wiktionary最大——不过我没打算收。只收正规词典。
我本来收了三个Oxford词典、两个Webster词典和Collins。
没注意到Webster的Third New International Dictionary。
我还以为American Heritage Dictionary是个中型词典，原来这么大！

1.English Wiktionary Contains 780,489 gloss entries and 1,439,188 total definitions.
2.Webster’s Third New International Dictionary and Addenda Section Contains 470,000 entries
3.The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition
In the introduction to the 4th and 5th editions, it is mentioned that more than 10,000 words have been added, thus the total for the 5th edition will be more than 370,000 words
4.Oxford English Dictionary, Second Edition
Oxford Dictionary has 273,000 headwords; 171,476 of them being in current use, 47,156 being obsolete words and around 9,500 derivative words included as subentries.
There is one count that puts the English vocabulary at about 1 million words — but that count presumably includes words such as Latin species names, prefixed and suffixed words, scientific terminology, jargon, foreign words of extremely limited English use and technical acronyms.
