这应该是个比较新的词，整词不容易查到，分开查不难。构词方式类似于汉字造字法中的“形声字”，由 thalass(o)- 和 -phile 两部分组合而成，字面意思是“爱大海的人”，构词方法同philosophy（爱智慧→哲学）。

Thalassophilus
后半部分词形变了，-philus是拉丁化的希腊词根，意思是“被食物或栖息地所吸引的生物”，来源于希腊语philos，“被吸引”是由“爱”引申而来的。从构词法上分析，这种生物栖息地多半跟thalass-有关。
一些比较新的词，往往会由希腊词根构成，表意精确，又彰显造词的人有文化。

嗯，这类单词出现较晚，又多属医学、生物学……，COCA 60000里也未必有。平时多积累些词根，关键时刻也能猜个七七八八。

有人统计过，现在英语词汇中10%不到来源于古英语，70%多来源于拉丁语（古法语，拉丁化的希腊语词根，原始印欧语词根，原始日耳曼语词根），另有20%左右（直接）来源于希腊语。
