就楼主mdict6对“on a cloudy morning”介词短语的推敲，本人在此“推波助澜”——略谈介词on其中一个义项“during a particular day 在〔某一天〕”的用法（AS MANY EXAMPLES AS POSSIBLE）：
介词on用在某一天，某一天的早晨、中午或晚上。例如：
①on a cold night 在一个寒冷的夜晚
②on a quiet evening 在一个宁静的晚上
③on the eve of the great war 在大战前夜
④on the morning of July 6 (th) 在7月6日上午
⑤on a dull afternoon of April 在4月里一个沉闷的下午
