Folklore Retold

The cartoon opens with a potbellied Muslim farmer who had tried every way to lose weight, but to no avail. One day, however, he encountered a wise man, who told him there was a magic medicine for his perpetual woes buried somewhere in his own backyard. On hearing this, the farmer ran home immediately and set about spading with a will. He so dug, and dug, and dug, day and night, rain or shine, but when he had turned the backyard almost upside down, there was still no trace of what he was looking for—that coveted cure to overweight. Feeling fooled, the enraged farmer went to the wise man for explanation. Unperturbed, however, he smoothed his long beard deliberately with one hand and pointed at the farmer’s flattended belly with the other, saying, "haven’t you already taken the medicine you’ve been looking for?’ Then came an enlightening eureka moment as the farmer looked down at his stomach. Not until now did he find out what that magic medicine actually was.
