作者简介 · · · · · ·
Jerome Irving Rodale (surname accented on second syllable) (August 16, 1898 – June 8, 1971), was a playwright, editor, author, and founder of Rodale, Inc.
杰罗姆·欧文·罗代尔(姓氏重音在第二音节)(1898 年 8 月 16 日-1971 年 6 月 8 日),是一位剧作家、编辑、作家,也是罗代尔公司的创始人。
He was one of the first advocates of a return to sustainable agriculture and organic farming in the United States. He founded a publishing empire, founded several magazines, and published many books—his own and those of others—on health. He also published works on a wide variety of other topics, including The Synonym Finder. Rodale popularized the term “organic” to mean grown without pesticides.

Unique book will enliven your writing

Format: Hardcover
I have own and used and treasured this amazing book for many, many years. It is unique, will enliven your writing. You write your basic text and then you go back and consult this book for richer verbs and for adjectives and adverbs that improve your text. It is good for when you are writing recommendations for people, toasts, eulogies, short stories, novels, even (when used sparingly) business writing.
多年来,我一直拥有、使用并珍视这本令人惊叹的书籍。它独一无二,能让你的写作焕发生机。你写下基础文本后,再回头查阅这本书,寻找更丰富的动词、形容词和副词来优化你的文字。无论是撰写推荐信、祝酒词、悼词、短篇小说、长篇小说,甚至(适度使用时)商务写作,它都非常实用。
I know this book is out of print. I wish there was a new edition, and also some kind of plug-in for Microsoft Word would be ideal.
我知道这本书已经绝版了。真希望能有新版本,同时如果能有一个适用于 Microsoft Word 的插件就太理想了。
The right word 正确的词语

Very helpful in getting just the right word to express my thoughts. As Mark Twain said, using the wrong word is the difference between fire and firefly.
在寻找恰如其分的词语来表达思想时,这本书非常有用。正如马克·吐温所说,用错词就像把火焰和萤火虫混为一谈。

When I look up a word that may either be a noun or a verb—for example “grumble”—the last thing I want is a list of adverbs, which is exactly what Rodale supplies. Page after page, he supplies mostly adverbs or adjectives. In this instance, I want comparable nouns or verbs and I’m dismayed to say they are entirely absent. Take any noun like “illustration.” Royale supplies an extensive list of adjectives and verbs, but no comparable nouns. It’s like he comes from a different planet. Any writer knows one’s style is marred by unnecessary descriptors, yet these comprise the bulk of what he supplies. Stick with a thesaurus. You’re much better off and for a more modest cost.
