我隐约记得英语动词历史上有着众多曲折变化形式，后来都简化掉了，而三单算是残留物（相当于人类的尾骨），至于为什么会保留三单这种曲折形式，可能并不是因为其重要的功能性，也可能仅仅是简化到后面想留个纪念，否则其他曲折又有什么理由非:ideograph_advantage:简化掉呢，较真的话可能每个都应该保留，但历史就是给它嘎了，也屁事没有:joy:

因为有些名词单复数同形，三单可以判断这些名词是单身还是复数。
第一人称和第二人称没有这方面问题。
此外，三单还可以在句子倒装时判断谁是主语。

过去时、过去分词、现在分词、比较级、最高级、复数，都是曲折变化。这个跟历史流传有关吧。

是的，中古英语的屈折比现在的屈折要多得多。。。
英语一直在朝着简化的方向发展
