    attributive. Designating a reaction mechanism proposed by Zeldovich for the oxidation of nitrogen to nitric oxide during combustion; of or relating to this mechanism. Esp. in Zeldovich mechanism, Zeldovich reaction.
    The mechanism involves a two-step chain process: O + N2 → NO + N; N + O2 → NO + O.
