今天更新不背单词软件，无意中发现一个评论，提示单词capture缺少represent的含义，本着见到单词就及时学习的心态，查询world book dictionary，无任何represent的解释，只有捕捉和吸引。
Chambers：To succeed in representing (something intangible or elusive) in a fixed or permanent form
Collins：to succeed in representing or describing (something elusive)
the artist captured her likeness
两本其他母语词典都收录类似represent的含义，甚至朗文5也收录“用文字或图片记录描述捕捉”的含义
为什么会出现这种情况？听说WBD有一个新版本，有没有解决这个情况？
WBD最后一次大更新是1996年，那时候的技术水平和现在差远了，缺义项是很正常的。有更新的话估计是民间做的，官方基本不管了。
啊这，
可惜了WBD这么好的释义风格，换一本主力词典适应成本好高，那我这里有柯林斯、兰登→dictionary.com2016、ahd2017、soed、ode和韦氏全本，哪本替代wbd好啊？
我不是词典专家，不好做推荐，个人喜欢用韦氏和Microsoft Encarta Dictionary。

ODE by Karx is better than M-W Unabrdiged. If you are studying British literature then ODE will work as Unabridged version.
But if you are look for American Literature then i recommend M-W core. Unabridged if you are already C2 learner on CEFR level.

wbd 是我喜欢的词典之一。其特点是非常干净。一般词典的 bed 词条下带有很多 sex 方面的释义， wbd 上一个字都没收录。其实 to go to bed with 就包括了其中含义，无需赘言。楼主所说 represent，译成中文是什么？我日常用的词典，只有 mwd 见此释义，其例句还是 “捕获、捕捉”的意思。我用英语词典不多，wbd 查查，最多到 soed。实在查不到，看看 oed。用词典，能解惑就足够了。一般情况下用英汉词典，或者cod9、cod12，可解决绝大部分问题。
