关于这个翻译究竟离谱到了什么程度，我想有必要举例说明一下——

【腓尼基人】  
中：他們的字母是以希臘字母為基礎。  
英：Their alphabet became the basis of the Greek alphabet  
评：字母的起源一般认为是从古埃及象形文字圣书体到闪米特人的腓尼基字母，再从腓尼基字母产生其它各种字母。译文全然搞反。

【維吉爾】  
中：詩中頌揚傳說中之埃涅阿斯在奧古斯都(在西元前31～前30年集權而統一羅馬世界)請求下建立羅馬  
英：A celebration of the founding of Rome by the legendary AENEAS at the request of Augustus, whose consolidation of power in 31-30 BC unified the Roman world  
评：埃涅阿斯是传说中特洛伊时代的英雄、罗马城的建立者，奥古斯都则是千年后罗马帝国的第一位皇帝，所以奥古斯都怎么可能请求埃涅阿斯？原文其实在是说奥古斯都请求作一首颂扬埃涅阿斯建立罗马的史诗。

【北伐戰爭】  
中：蔣介石攻擊和鎮壓了共產黨領導的工會，工會就占領了上海  
英：when Communist-led labor unions captured Shanghai for Chiang he attacked and suppressed them  
评：周恩来领导工会占领上海在先，蒋借青帮发动四一二事件在后。错误在于把for理解为“因为”，其实是“为了”的意思。

【乐浪】  
中：後來中國將其與半島南部合併，而部分地區亦受到日本的影響。  
英： the Chinese incorporated southern Korea and parts of Japan into their sphere of influence  
评：断错句，把意思完全弄反。是部分日本的地区受到中国影响。

【龙山文化】  
中：甲骨文則用來問卜。  
英：Oracle bones were used for divination.  
评：如果龙山文化时就有甲骨文了，则可以把汉字历史提前千年。这里oracle bones应该译为“卜骨”才对。

看了这些，其他像把Shatuo Turks（沙陀）翻译成“契丹”的错误，应该就不值一提了。
